Ways to Help RHoK, Jr.

At the core, our mission is to demonstrate to young people the potential of technology to do good. Since our beginning, we have grown steadily and demonstrated significant results. However, we’ve only just begun.

Get Involved and Help Us Pursue Our Purpose

To make our hackathons available to all children, we charge only a nominal attendance fee and rely heavily on volunteers as well as donations of materials, facilities, and funds. We need additional financial and other resources to cover the costs of snacks, mailings, souvenir t-shirts, etc.

In addition, our goal is to reach ever more children by offering more hackathons and expanding our geographic reach beyond Connecticut. There are many ways you can help RHoK, Jr. to achieve our mission.

Mentors helping kids with coding

Older students and adults can serve as Mentors at a hackathon or contribute by helping out on-site, researching and recruiting charities, or providing other valuable assistance in administering and publicizing our programs.

Provide a place for hackathons and funding for breakfast, t-shirts, etc., and be part of the community.

Swag

While providing financial support, Sponsors’ dedication to our mission and publicity for their organization is communicated by display of their logo on our promotional materials, at the hackathon, on the RHoK, Jr. Facebook page and other social media pages, and press releases. Past sponsors include Tom’s of Maine, Girl Scouts of Connecticut, and The Women and Girl’s Fund.

Partners
Central CT State University Partners, Dr. Stanislav Kurkovsky, Chairman of the Computer Science department, and Dr. Zulma Toro.

Many hands are needed to run the hackathons and Partners are crucial for assisting in their implementation. They help in the following ways:

  • Help find student participants
  • Help find and recruit Mentors
  • Suggest nonprofits to engage in the program
  • Help on-site the day of the hackathon
  • Order or provide food as needed

Make a Donation

Please support our programming. Additional funding will allow us to impact more children and help them imagine a career in the continually growing STEM and computing arenas.

Your donation will:

  • Support our Scholarship program
  • Eliminate financial barriers to attendance for low income students
  • Provide more opportunities in underserved communities that lack computer classes in their schools
  • Help keep our cost of attending an event low so everyone can participate.

“Worked on App for Ben’s Bells. Amazed at how organized the event was – and the reason behind it!! Very glad my daughter had this opportunity. I am sure it has opened a lot of new possibilities. Thank you!”
