Virtual Kids Coding for A Cause – Addressing Invasive Species

October 21 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free - $18.00
3 hour virtual coding program for girls and boys (4-8th grade) with Code.org’s App Lab and Zoom.

Join Random Hacks of Kindness Junior and Dee Salomon , The Ungardner, for a coding workshop focusing on the impact of invasive plant species on the environment.

Salomon, the ‘Ungardener’ writes, advocates and consults on woodland restoration.

Dee moved to Litchfield County a decade ago and began clearing invasive plant species from the woodland adjacent to the property. Several things happened through the process: 1) Nature responded to Dee’s remedial actions; tree seeds germinated and grew quickly, creating a much needed understory of trees and 2) Native shrubs and herbaceous plants began to grow, all in response to the eradication of the invasives.

Dee writes on the topic for several publications and has a monthly column in the Lakeville Journal. Along with many other ungardeners across the country, Dee advocates for the removal of destructive invasive species.

Participants will experience first hand how they can use technology to create positive change.
